Launching Cingulum Creative

“In a world that is becoming more saturated with obnoxious visual content compressed into shorter time frames, the battle for people’s attention has become more subtle.”

The apps on our devices prey on our psychology like poker machines. Stories, Reels and Tiktoks devour time mercilessly. But rather than join the arms race of flashing colours, many young filmmakers are appreciating slowness, taking up celluloid and dated equipment and favouring beauty in simplicity rather than loud extravagance.

However, the film industry can be impenetrable and those filmmakers who sit on the cusp are initially driven to generate their art for the sake of itself rather than for commercial gain. Their desire to write, direct, produce or act is hardwired into them; more of a necessity than a hobby.

Cingulum wants to tap into this energy and so has decided to launch Cingulum Creative — a wing dedicated to engaging with young filmmakers and artists.

There is a harmonious symmetry at play, as these artists document and capture the therapies and practices that Cingulum offers for improving mental fitness, they simultaneously perform their own mental fitness practice.

At the clinic we become intertwined in the lives of the individuals who come through the doors. Struggles with mental and neurological health do not discriminate. We see people from all walks of life wrestling with a multitude of challenges. To see them throw themselves into new things, get out of their comfort zones and really try to squeeze every last drop out of their time here is truly inspiring.

Yet their journeys almost always go unsung. Everyday, all around us people fight unknown wars.

Through Cingulum Creative we will bring artists into the clinic to engage with the space and to connect with patients, in the hope that we may share the stories we witness on a daily basis and represent our values in new and beautiful ways.

Cingulum Creative will launch its first project and short film, ‘The Ocean’ in the coming month, about Joel North, the man who inspired Cingulum’s mission.

Two additional short film projects are also currently underway. Each of them represents individuals on their journeys to overcome different neurological and psychological obstacles.

Video art and soundscapes are used to take us within the mind, incorporating abstract yet familiar depictions of the unique atmosphere, technologies, and patient-centred approach that Cingulum offers.

Keep an eye out for updates and content from these films coming soon!
